FRIDAY |
In honor of this most disappointing situation, I propose an addition to the game of Stellar Crisis: Unfair Fridays. One day a week, all concepts of fairness, empathy, ethics, equity, humanity, generosity, compassion and politeness are forgotten. Every Friday, the most benign alien empires will suddenly make Sigourney Weaver's nemesis look like Roger Rabbit. No truce. No trade. No alliances. No friendly discourse. FOUL language is encouraged, especially words strictly forbidden in AOL's TOS. Blinking HR1 home world names will predominate, as will minefields, cloakers and doomsday ships.
Friendly empires who violate this day of reckoning will be nuked without compassion, preferably with cloakers from a neighboring ally turned evil. Empires without prearranged allies will be subjected to public ridicule. Those who play only one empire in a given game will be punished by being forced to play a superblitz against themselves at QContinuum. And, of course, the empire that complains about the "unfairness" of a game will be made to nuke himself.
Does anyone think this is a good idea? Perhaps we could implement it one day a week on one server, upon which we could place all sorts of HTML and Java warning signs and whatnot, so no one complains about the foul language or wonders why the Stellar Crisis regulars are behaving so oddly today. The objective of Unfair Fridays, of course, would be to have fun. Too often I feel constrained by the unwritten rules of Stellar Crisis. Perfectly good games get broken up because of some odd sense of what is fair and what is not; allies suddenly turn out to be useless plodders when C.O.R.E and Vegetti are allied against you, but what can you do? Unfair Fridays would allow us to break free of these bonds for a day and have a good time betraying other empires and cussing and whatnot. The general tone of the thing, of course, would have to be humorous or folks would get angry. "Newbies, the sensitive and the humor-deficient should go play at QContinuum," we could say.
Ideas, suggestions, amendments?
Of course, after reading this, I knew I had to join in. I to get sick of the fair and unfair sometimes, although I do try to make games fair when I play. This often gets me criticised and double or tripple teamed, so you can see why I think this no rules, no etiquette day would be great. Apparently, other people do to 8^). Here are some of the better suggestions so far:
I get the feeling a lot of people aren't going to want to risk their primary emps on this. But that might make it more fun...point this out and suggest everyone use a secondary emp so nobody knows who is really who.
etc, one for each day of the week. Perhaps we could convince Morpheus to do this on Vanaheim, since that's where this whining nonsense seems to have started. I'm sure he could cobble up a code fix to do this. Only show the relevant game for that day.
This should, of course, be a ProBloodBlitz game, so real newbies don't get caught up in this.
BigBSo far, this what I've got. This can be a whole server affair for one day, where the server is enter at your own risk or this can be a certain game that is something like a ProBloodBlitz as BigB suggests. If it turns into a server affair, you might want to think about Aggie Land's comment if you are watching out for your stats. I'm hoping for one of the servers (possibly Vividnet because it seems to be doing nothing else) to donate every Friday and during this time, the server becomes a free for all, with a notice on the login screen explaining what is going on. Even if it wasn't weekly, you could make it monthly. I was thinking 2.0 or 1.75 tech per turn, 4 or 5 systems per player, and engineers don't lose BR.
Guess what!! I am now a temp admin on Vividnet! I have set up a game which you can go into every day of the week and every friday will be Unfair Friday! In addition, Morpheus, Vanaheim's maintainer has also agreed to making every friday, "Unfair Friday."
If you have any more suggestions to add to this, please e-mail me or post them up on sc-talk and I will put them up on this page(if they're any good). I did suggest holding it on Q Continuum but Max came up with a good point about the server being to slow. Right now, I'd like to hold it on Lysator or Vanaheim. If you would like to join sc-talk, there are instructions within Stellar Crisis Central that will help you.
